Farewell to Dusty

Nothing to do with the Yardbirds as such but had to mention the passing of the wonderful Dusty Springfield. Anyone, who grew up in the sixties, had to be affected by the tragic death of easily the number one rock/soul singer in the country.

Way back when in the Springfield's, she had cracked America way before bands like the Beatles. The Springfield's had paved the way for all following UK bands. With all three members going their separate ways, Dusty's solo career took off to new heights. Hit followed hit with ease, perhaps her best known song was the moody "You don't have to say you love me" co written by Vickie Wickham and one time Yardbirds manager Simon Napier-Bell. (I just knew there was a Yardbirds connection in there somewhere didn't you?). As yet the dreadful BBC or the other UK stations still have not come up with a proper program about her life, still she was only the best, most successful female singer this country has ever had so not really worth bothering about. Anyway the spice girls are still about and they are far more important, right! Wrong!
